Marcel Grossmann Meetings Print E-mail

Since 1975, the Marcel Grossmann Meetings (on Recent Developments in Theoretical and Experimental General Relativity, Gravitation, and Relativistic Field Theories) have been organized in order to provide opportunities for discussing recent advances in gravitation, general relativity and relativistic field theories, emphasizing mathematical foundations, physical predictions and experimental tests.

The objective of these meetings is to elicit exchange among scientists that may deepen our understanding of spacetime structures as well as to review the status of ongoing experiments aimed at testing Einstein's theory of gravitation either from the ground or from space.

Interested scientists should address a member from any one of the organizing committees or the conference secretariat. Proceedings have been published by North Holland and later World Scientific.

The MG meetings were founded in 1975 by Remo Ruffini and Abdus Salam with the aim of reviewing developments in gravitation and general relativity with major emphasis on mathematical foundations and physical predictions.

The dedication to Marcel Grossmann celebrates the merging of the mathematical ideas of Gregorio Ricci-Curbastro and Tullio Levi-Civita with the physics world, made possible by the genius of Albert Einstein. Their 1913 paper together is viewable online.

The story of the founding of the Marcel Grossmann Meetings and the early meetings themselves in parallel with the development of the modern era of relativistic astrophysics can be found in the essay by Remo Ruffini in the front matter of the Proceedings of the Seventh Marcel Grossman Meeting.
