ICRANet Position Announcement: Professor in Relativistic Astrophysics

ICRANet invites applications for a permanent full-time position as Professor in Relativistic Astrophysics. The selected candidate will be expected to carry out research and educational activities in ICRANet, particularly focusing on observational studies of astronomical transients, such as Black Holes, Novae, Supernovae (core-collapse and thermonuclear), Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs), within the framework of Einstein theory of general relativity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research in areas related to transient phenomena in astrophysics.
- Maintain collaborations with national and international research institutions, including CAS, ESA, ESO, INAF, and NASA.
- Deliver high-level teaching in PhD and post-doctoral programs.
- Engage in administrative tasks and contribute to research program development.
- Supervise PhD students and promote diversity in the academic environment.
- Assume leadership roles and provide strategic direction for ICRANet's research programs.
Qualifications:
- A PhD in Physics, Astronomy, or Astrophysics.
- Strong research record in observational astrophysics, focusing on transients like Black Holes, Novae, Supernovae, GRBs, and kilonovae.
- Proven excellence in academic teaching at the PhD and post-doc level.
- Experience in leadership roles within scientific institutions.
- Fluency in English; basic knowledge of Spanish, French, or German is desirable.
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion in research and teaching.
- Experience in science communication and outreach activities.
Additional Information:
Since its establishment, ICRANet has fostered the education of over 120 PhD students from 15 countries. It has significantly contributed to astrophysics, particularly in the theory of Gamma-Ray Bursts, Supernovae connections, and collapsed objects like neutron stars and black holes.
The selected candidate will play a key role in maintaining this tradition of academic excellence while providing managerial oversight for continued success.
