Title: Reverse engineering the Local Universe

Abstract:
The Local Universe, i.e. the ensemble of structures located a few Mpc away from our Galaxy, is the part of the Universe that can be best observed and thus is able to provide the greatest constraining power on cosmological theories. Using the Constrained Simulations technique, we will show how to reconstruct the main properties of the largest structures in the Milky Way neighbourhood, and how to infer the distribution, evolution and history of the dark matter in the patch of the Universe we live in. This effectively provides us a numerical laboratory to test structure formation, allowing a direct comparison between simulated objects and observations while providing precise and testable predictions.
