The Center is a non-profit private institution, dedicated to the
development, promotion and diffusion of scientific research. It was
founded in 1984.
It has a group of first-rate scientists, with high internal
cohesion and a clear and definite sense of their mission. The group has
developed active links with the scientific community of Latin America,
U.S.A. and Europe. It carries out periodical meetings which bring in
contact Latin American scientists with their colleages in the northern
hemisphere and, at the same time, encourages their regional interaction.
The scientific productivity of its members is at the level of a
good group from a developed country. If articles published in
international magazines with editorial committees are considered, it
ranks among the first five of all scientific and higher education
institutions in the country, surpassing many of long-standing tradition
with a greater number of faculty members.
If the production per capita is taken into consideration, the figures are even more favourable.
The group of researchers in their various disciplines share a
common target, thus enabling them to undertake problems of policy and
scientific outreach with the necessary dosis of audacity.
The aim of the Centre is to open a group working in Theoretical
Relativistic Astrophysics in close collaboration with international
observatories in Chile and local universities.
